The first appointment
Your first appointment will take approximately 1½ hours. During that time, I will want to hear everything you can tell me about your current condition plus your full medical history.
Homeopathy is a holistic therapy so I will also want to know about you as a person, your likes and dislikes, how you react to stress, and all the factors that make you an individual. I will be taking written notes and these are, of course, kept strictly confidential. There is no physical examination and you will be seated in a comfortable chair and given all the time you need to tell me everything I need to know.
The Treatment
There are over 2000 homeopathic medicines (traditionally called “remedies”) from which I will select the one most suited to your individual case. The choice of medicine is a painstaking process and while sometimes the remedy that is needed is clearly apparent at the end of the consultation it is much more usual for me to spend a significant amount of time after you have left in making sure I have made the best choice I can on the information you have provided.
The remedy will then be posted to you (or can be collected if you prefer). Remedies are prescribed in a number of ways, either as medicated sugar pills or in liquid form. There is virtually no taste and the pills present no problems with swallowing because they are simply allowed to dissolve in the mouth.
Getting better
People often ask: “how long will it take for me to get better?” This varies enormously depending on how long you have been unwell in the first place. When a remedy is well-matched to the patient there are likely to be signs of improvement within the first month even if you have been unwell for a long time, but it would be unrealistic to expect a complete recovery this quickly.
While conventional drugs work by suppressing or masking symptoms, the aim of homeopathy is to address the underlying problem. If the road into your present condition has been a long and gradual process, the road out of it may also be long – but at least it will be in the right direction!
Initially I will need to see you again soon. A first follow up around a month following the start of your treatment is usually ideal. Then as you progress the follow up consultations can be spread further apart to two-monthly, and so on. Many patients like to maintain a regular contact after that by coming to see me every six months or so, so that any problems can be addressed quickly before they have time to become entrenched. Follow up consultations take up to 1 hour.
My fee also includes 4 weeks of homeopathic remedies needed and advice for acute symptoms.
I hope this covers everything but please be in touch again before your appointment if there is anything else you would like to know. I look forward to seeing you at your appointment.
